So you have done your course and assessment and got your IRATA qualification (in the UK) where do you go from here?

What job you get in rope access can depend a lot on what other qualifications you have, there are very few jobs that only require a rope access qualification, the more qualifications you have the easier it should be to find a job, don’t forget to be reliable and courteous on site as rope access is quite a small world!

The seemingly most popular way to advertise and find jobs in this day and age seems to be WhatsApp groups, especially the shorter term, self-employed opportunities. There are some job advertising sites such as Rigg Access and Indeed, although most of these you do need to register for an account and upload your CV.

Social media such as Facebook or LinkedIn can be useful recruitment platforms, some companies may put job opportunities on their page and if you set up a LinkedIn profile with your qualifications and experience, companies can find you and get in contact when they have vacancies.

You could send your CV to companies you like the look of, who may keep it on file and get in touch when something suitable to your qualifications comes up. Sometimes it is wise to resend your CV if you haven’t heard back from the company after a period of time just to remind them, but top tip - try not to pester too much!

Word of mouth, the last one I will mention but possibly the most useful, make friends with other rope access techs and they may pass on employment opportunities they hear of if they're not available or want you to join the team. They can also add you to other WhatsApp groups that you may not be in or know about! It's all about networking...
