What is the difference between Beal Contract rope and other ropes?
The main difference with Beal Contract rope is it tends to be cheaper than other semi static ropes and is designed to be used for applications where it will need to be replaced frequently, such as geotechnical projects on railway embankments or structure painting jobs.
It is excellent value for money tending to be around 20% cheaper than other ropes. Contract rope has the same maximum lifetime as other low stretch ropes being a maximum of 15 years (5 years (max) before first use in proper storage) and 10 years from first use.
As stated by the manufacturer, Beal, the working life depends on the frequency of use, the conditions of storage, use, cleaning, inspection and maintenance.
All PPE should be regularly inspected by a qualified and competent person.
Top Tips :- Did you know that a semi-static rope can actually shrink by up to 15% or higher due to initial shrinkage and other environmental and usage factors, such as humidity, temperature, ongoing use and washing. This should always be considered when labelling the end of ropes and when in use / periodic inspection.
A lot of manufacturers recommend to pre-condition new ropes by soaking and drying them naturally before use to speed up the shrinkage process, get a more accurate measure of length and prevent sheath slippage. Did you also know that Beal Unicore Rope already has the outer sheath and core bonded together to minimise sheath slippage and can give added security in rope cut failure conditions.
Remember:- Rope should only be cleaned using luke warm water and a mild detergent, ideally a designated and approved rope cleaner such as Beal Rope Cleaner Eco-detergent.
